TC GIRLS TENNIS BEATS WALDRON, FELLING BREAKS CAREER WIN MARK. Triton Central’s girls tennis team opened IHSAA Sectional No. 24 play in dominant fashion Tuesday night, defeating Waldron 4-0 at Shelbyville High School to advance to the sectional semifinals. The victory improves the Tigers to 18-3 on the season and was highlighted by a historic milestone from senior standout Maryrose Felling. With her victory at No. 1 singles, Felling became Triton Central’s all-time career wins leader, earning her 66th career victory in impressive fashion with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Riley Thurston. The Tigers controlled singles play throughout the evening. At No. 2 singles, Anniston Evans matched Felling’s score with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ava Leising. Zhibek Zhumaly completed the singles sweep with another commanding performance at No. 3 singles, defeating Leah Kuhn 6-1, 6-1. Triton Central also secured the fourth point at No. 2 doubles, where Estelle Gearlds and Cadence Roberts earned a solid 6-2, 6-2 victory over Malia Murphy and Hannah Rouse. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Kate Collier and Neve Kahler was left unfinished and is scheduled to be completed Thursday night prior to Triton Central’s sectional semifinal matchup against host Shelbyville. Triton Central will now turn its attention to Thursday evening’s sectional semifinal showdown with Shelbyville, with a spot in the sectional championship on the line.
