BASEBALL VS. NORTHEASTERN (5/16)

TC BASEBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH NORTHEASTERN. Triton Central split a varsity baseball doubleheader Saturday morning on the road against Northeastern High School, falling 8-6 in game one before bouncing back with a 5-3 win in the nightcap. The Tigers now sit at 7-15 on the season heading into Monday night’s home matchup against Oldenburg Academy at 5:30 PM. In the opener, Triton Central battled back from an early deficit and took a 6-5 lead after scoring three runs in the fifth inning, but Northeastern answered with three runs in the sixth to secure the win. Senior Andrew Berry led the Tigers offensively in game one, driving in three runs on one hit. Kail Slaughter added an RBI single, while Brody Hartman, Weston Smith, Ty Bergman and Brayden Hoover each scored runs in the contest. On the mound, Cooper Alford struck out six over five innings of relief work, while Smith added a strikeout in one inning. The Tigers responded in game two with one of their more complete performances of the season. Triton Central scored three runs in the second inning and never relinquished the lead on the way to the 5-3 victory. Junior Brayden Hoover powered the offense with a two-run home run and finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Brody Hartman also drove in two runs, while Kellan Dishman collected two hits. Rylan Anderson chipped in a double and scored a run. Dishman was dominant on the mound in the second game, tossing a complete game and allowing just three unearned runs while striking out five over seven innings. The Tigers also turned a double play defensively behind a strong overall fielding effort.
