TC GIRLS TENNIS SWEEPS WALDRON TO CAPTURE COUNTY TITLE. Triton Central’s girls tennis team added another championship to its impressive season Thursday night, sweeping Waldron 5-0 to claim the Shelby County Championship at Triton Central High School. The Tigers controlled the match from start to finish, winning all five varsity courts in straight sets to improve to 17-2 on the season. At No. 1 singles, Maryrose Felling led the way with a solid 6-2, 6-3 victory over Riley Thurston. Anniston Evans followed with another dominant performance at No. 2 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win. Filling in at No. 3 singles, Ellie Gast stepped up with a strong effort, defeating Leah Kuhn 6-3, 6-2. Triton Central’s doubles teams were equally impressive in the championship match. At No. 1 doubles, the duo of Kate Collier and Neve Kahler overwhelmed Waldron’s Emerson Lindsey and Jackie Corlett in a 6-0, 6-1 victory. The No. 2 team of Estelle Gearlds and Cadence Roberts completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-1 win. The county championship adds to what has already been a standout season for the Tigers, who also recently secured the Hoosier Legends Conference title. Triton Central has relied on strong singles play and steady doubles performances throughout the year, and that formula continued in the championship match. With the victory, the Tigers improve to 17-2 overall and continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season. Triton Central returns to action Friday evening at home against Franklin Community, with matches scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM.
