TC GIRLS TENNIS FALLS TO DELTA ON THE ROAD. Triton Central’s girls tennis team faced one of its toughest challenges of the season Wednesday night, falling to a strong Delta squad 5-0 on the road. The Eagles controlled the varsity match from the start, handing the Tigers their second loss of the season and dropping Triton Central to 11-2 overall. At No. 1 singles, Delta’s Sophie Crabtree defeated Maryrose Felling 6-0, 6-0, while Olivia Marshall earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Anniston Evans at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Zhibek Zhumaly battled throughout her match but came up short in a 6-2, 6-4 decision against Stella Sieber. Delta also swept doubles play. The No. 1 team of Kate Manor and Alexa Bratton defeated Neve Kahler and Kate Collier 6-4, 6-1, while Elizabeth Bamidele and Rowan Hinds claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win over Estelle Gearlds and Ellie Gast at No. 2 doubles. Although the varsity score was one-sided, Triton Central’s junior varsity squad competed hard in a marathon matchup before falling 9-7. Reese Kelley picked up the Tigers’ lone singles win with an 8-2 victory, while Triton Central earned several doubles victories throughout the evening. Yanisa Kusoolboonpa and Taytem Robey pulled out a close 8-7 (2) win, and the teams of Cadence Roberts and Lexi Poole, Lucie Garver and Ava Copeland, Keely O’Gara and Madison Swisher, Penelope Turner and Brenna Mahurin, and Harper Sadler and Layne Boles also recorded victories. The Tigers return to action Thursday evening at Beech Grove, with matches scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM.
