TC GIRLS BASKETBALL FALL TO HERITAGE CHRISTIAN IN SECTIONAL FINAL, FELLING BREAKS SEASON POINTS RECORD. Triton Central’s postseason run came to a close Saturday night as the Tigers fell to Heritage Christian 59-52 in the IHSAA Sectional 43 championship game at Heritage Christian. With the loss, Triton Central finishes a strong season at 20-5 overall. Heritage Christian jumped out early, taking a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and stretching the advantage to 28-19 by halftime. The Eagles continued to build momentum in the third quarter, extending their lead to 43-29 heading into the final period. Triton Central battled back in the fourth, outscoring Heritage Christian 23-16 in a spirited rally, but the comeback effort came up just short. Maryrose Felling led the Tigers with 17 points in her final high school game, while Layla Compton added 16 points in a strong offensive showing. Quinn King contributed nine points, Cheyenne Allen finished with six, and Kate Collier added four. With her first point of the game, Felling broke the school’s single-season scoring record previously held by Samantha Dewey (2014-15). Felling finished the year with a new single-season mark of 567 points. Earlier this season, Felling also became Triton Central’s all-time leading scorer, and she concludes her career with a remarkable 1,787 points — extending her hold on the school and Shelby County career scoring records.
